On Thursday, a press release from the Harvard Athletics Department announced that the highly anticipated Harvard-Yale-Princeton (HYP) indoor track and field meet would be canceled due to inclement weather. With a meet scheduled every weekend leading up to the Ivy Championships on Feb. 26–27 for the Tigers, it appears unlikely that the HYP meet will be rescheduled.
A snowstorm has been forecasted to pass through the region on Saturday, the day of the meet. Harvard originally rescheduled the meet for Sunday, January 30th before deciding to officially cancel the meet. It’s likely that Harvard waited until the last minute to see if the storm would clear.
After the initial postponement, the Princeton track coaching staff pulled both the men’s and the women’s team out of the HYP meet. Harvard’s decision to cancel the meet after originally rescheduling did not affect the Tigers’ decision to instead attend the Sykes Sabock Challenge hosted by Penn State on Saturday, Jan. 29. The Penn State invitational will be a scored meet, according to Head Coach Michelle Eisenreich.
Meanwhile, Harvard will send its athletes to a meet at Boston University. Yale will not be attending any meets in place of HYP this weekend. On Friday, Feb. 4, Yale will compete in Harvard’s Crimson Elite Meet.
Princeton will return to Ivy competition at the Dr. Sanders Invitational hosted by Columbia on Feb. 4–5.
